Captured by Light is a unique sculpture from the most sought after series of painted linden wood by Turkey's very talented young artist Yasam Sasmazer, who won straight after her graduation in 2003 the Sakip Sabani art award. The artist works in bronze and solid wood; carving life sized as well as miniature figures of not so innocent children. She tackles issues of authority, fear and childhood traits as opposed to adulthood power.

The present lot Captured by light depicts a young girl standing, looking upward in fear in a state of total surrender. Her reflected oversized shadow in the background is in a complete opposite state, reflecting a spooky and scary character which represents the darkness of her soul.

Yasam Sasmazer masters the quick transition between the obvious, the hidden and the most frightening parts in ones personality. She questions the social stereotypical attributes given to children such as naivety and innocence when there is a great deal of cruelty and aggression existing in each and every person.
