ATTRIBUTED TO THE BUCCI PAINTER, CIRCA 540-530 B.C.
The obverse depicting the birth of the armoured Athena from the head of the seated Zeus, an owl standing under the god's chair, flanked by the two Eileithyiae, the goddesses of childbirth; the reverse with standing male youth playing a double auloi, facing a himation-clad standing bearded male figure; bands of lotus-bud chains and rays above the foot, alternate red and black tongues on the shoulders, lotus-palmette chain on neck, trailing palmettes and lotus buds below the handles, details in added white and red
