1982 LAFITE

From an original wooden case comes these last few remaining bottles of '82 Lafite, the rest of the case having been enjoyed by the consignor over the years. The consignor, a longtime friend of Christie's, removed these bottles from his temperature controlled cellar for this sale.
Château Lafite-Rothschild--Vintage 1982
Pauillac, 1er cru classé
Levels: top shoulder; two very lightly corroded capsules, one capsule torn at top, two lightly bin soiled labels, one lightly torn label at corner
"Eventually a triumph. On decanting and for two and a half hours later, the wine was big and smoky, with ripe fruit, a rather burnt nose, and firm, grippy tannins. With time a softer, riper plum and fig fruit character arose and the smoky, burnt aromas took a backseat, along with cedary lead pencil notes. On the palate in time the tannins softened as well, providing a lush, rich, velvety drink just in time for the steak." CC, Dinner at Christie's, December 2009
