Lot Essay

The two watercolours describe the British suppressing the slave trade in Sierra Leone in and action led by Major General Charles Turner, as described by Turner in detail in a letter to Lord Bathurst dated 2 March 1826, for which see Cameo , Volume 10, Number 1, pp. 32-6.
