Lot Essay

Marìa Fèlix (1914-2002) 'La Dõna', to her legions of fans, was an icon of Mexican cinema in the 1940's. Her dramatic, emotionally charged roles often paralleled her turbulent, extravagant private life. Married four times, she was a frequent sight in high society dressed in couture clothing often set off by one of her iconic pieces of Cartier custom designed jewelry; her watch became the model introduced by Cartier in 2006 called 'La Dõna'. Felix's collection of European decorative arts and couture was offered in a single owner sale at Christie's New York on 17-18 July 2007.
