Each with pierced loop gallery and foliate scroll handles, the central rectangular panel painted and hand-tooled in white slip with a putto either offering a floral garland or picking wildflowers while holding an arrow, reserved on a brown surround gilt with entwined ribbon, the reverse with either a military or amatory trophy, flanked by gilt enriched Berainesque panels, on four scroll feet

Lot Essay

Arthur Morgan is recorded as an apprentice to Louis Solon circa 1877 and later at Doulton decorating pâte-sur-pâte vases. See E. Aslin and P. Atterbury, Minton 1798-1910, Exhibition August - October 1976, Victoria & Albert Museum, London, 1976, p. 108, fig. TG62-70, pl. 93 for a centerpiece painted by Lawrence Birks from the dessert service shown in the Paris Exhibition of 1889. A similar centerpiece was sold in these rooms on 31 October 2000, lot 263 and a similar pair of bottle coolers decorated by Alboin Birks sold 23 April 2004, lot 376.
