With bulbous body rising to cylindrical tapering neck with two pronounced internal rings, wide circular mouth with everted rim, with black and cobalt-blue underglaze decoration on turquoise ground composed of vertical registers of vegetal forms around base, the body with roundels containing confronted birds set between bands of naskh, the shoulder with interwoven roundels, the mouth with vegetal scrolls interspersed with roundels, two further bands of naskh on base of neck and below rim, light crackelure to surface, repaired break to neck

The inscription around the neck comprises a quatrain in Persian attributed to Malik Tughanshah. This is frequently found on Seljuk lustre ware (Oya Pancaroglu, Perpetual Glory. Medieval Islamic Ceramics from the Harvey B. Plotnick Collection Chicago, 2007, p.133).
