A treatise on music, Ottoman Turkish manuscript on paper, 160ff. plus 2 fly-leaves each folio with 19ll of neat black naskh, important words and phrases picked out in red, gold verse roundels, catchwords, text panels outlined in gold and black, first folio with title in larger gold-outlined naskh, occasional diagrams, colophon signed and dated, overall clean condition, in velvet covered binding with paper doublures

Lot Essay

According to the introduction, this work was compiled for Muhammad ['Ali] Pasha, the Khedive of Egypt (1769-1849).

Another copy of the work is in the Leeds University Library. Although that copy is not dated, in the relevant entry in the Catalogue of Oriental Manuscripts, John Macdonald makes a reference to verses composed by al-Jindi in AH 1290/1873 AD. This suggests that ours is a relatively early copy (https://www.microform.co.uk/guides/TempView/v40Arabic0Mss0151-200 .pdf).
