SIGNED MEHMET AL-'ARIF SHAKIRZADE, TURKEY, DATED AH 1104/1692-3 AD
Arabic manuscript on cream and white paper mounted on card, 13ff. each with 2ll. of large black thuluth surrounding a smaller line of black naskh arranged within panels outlined with gold and polychrome rules, gold and polychrome floral medallions between different letters or verses, opening folio with floral illumination, laid down between coloured or marbled margins on variously coloured gold-speckled card with leather trim, final folio signed Muhammad al-'Arif Shakirzade and dated AH 1104, folios loose in binding, small repairs, areas of minor soiling, in maroon morocco with gold stamped borders

Lot Essay

This is an Ottoman album of practice calligraphy. It is signed 'The needy [of God] al-Sayyid Mehmet known as Shakirzade wrote it in the year 1014' (1692-93 AD). The scribe is unidentified.
