Of rectangular form, the maroon silk ground woven with 6 lines of Qur'an verses in elegant muhaqqaq done in metal thread horizontal seam, small added panel to the lower right-hand corner, solid metal thread border to the upper and right-hand margin suggesting the borders of the original textile, minor areas of fraying, mounted, glazed and framed

Lot Essay

The inscription on this textile comprises, Qur'an IV, sura al-nisa', v.77 (middle) to the end of the verse, with some gaps where the textile is fragmentary and Qur'an V, sura al-ma'ida, v.27, followed by the bismallah and Qur'an II, sura al-baqara, parts of v.246.
