A GATHERING IN A PAVILION
MUGHAL INDIA, LATE 16TH/EARLY 17TH CENTURY
Gouache heightened with gold on paper, two figures in brightly coloured robes sit upon an embroidered carpet in a sandstone pavilion with elaborate figural murals decorating the walls, they are attended by servants who talk amongst themselves, whisk flies and offer trays of refreshments, panels above and below with lines of nasta'liq deliberately erased, laid down between polychrome rules on minor blue borders and on gold speckled outer margin, later attribution in lower margin, 'amal Nadir al-Zaman, printed description on reverse, mounted
