THREE CARVED WOODEN MANUSCRIPTS COVERS
TIBET, CIRCA 16TH/17TH CENTURY
Comprising a panel depicting Avalokiteshvara Chaturbhuja seating at center on a dais within a torana with lions and Garuda, Vajrapani to the right and Manjushri to the left, both on lotus thrones within toranas interspersed with foliate scrolling within a rectangular border, very slight traces of gilding, another with the Buddha in bhumiparsamudra at center with possibly Tara in virtakamudra to the right and Avalokiteshvara Chaturbhuja to the left, each seated on thrones within foliated toranas in square niches, with Tibetan inscriptions, the reverse a symbol within scrollworks and remains of lacquer, and another depicting the Buddha in bhumiparsamudra at center and possibly Amitayus and Vairocana to the right and left, seated on dais with garudas, elephants, a kala and lions within floriated toranas, surrounded by bodhisattvas, tutelary deities, traces of red pigment
