Rising from trumpet foot with openwork lozenge lattice through rounded melon-fluted body and vertical neck with two pronounced bosses to slightly everted rim, scrolling handle with animal head terminal and remains of hinge for the now lacking lid and S-shaped spout with pronounced finial, minor bands of engraved palmette or geometric design, foot restored, handle repaired

Lot Essay

A very similar ewer is in the British Museum (Mark Zebrowski, Gold, Silver and Bronze from Mughal India, London, 1997, no.187, p.146). That is attributed to North India or the Deccan, 16th Century.
