A GOANESE MOTHER-OF-PEARL INLAID WOODEN CHEST
WESTERN INDIA, 16TH CENTURY
Of rectangular form with four wide feet, flat hinged lid, two side handles, large latch and three drawers with internal locking mechanism and metal latches, front with mother-of-pearl inlaid peacocks and stylised floral spray on background of inlaid quatrefoils, further inlaid quatrefoils on front of drawers and along perimeter of top and bottom, lid and other three sides with losses to inlay, a quatrefoil lattice, losses to inlay, particularly on edges
