The inscription around the rim of this bowl is a call to God to bless Muhammad and the Twelve Imams. The bowl is also inscribed with verses in Persian which are contained in calligraphic cartouches and which ask for the protection of the owner. In one of the cartouches is written, du'a-ye banda-ye mas'ud in ast, 'this is the prayer of the slave of Mas'ud'.
