Lot Essay

The inscription reads al-wathiq bi al-malik al-samad al-'abd Hajji Husayn bin Muhammad (Confident in the Eternal King, His servant Hajji Husayn bin Muhammad). A seal stone with a similar inscription is in the Nasser D. Khalili Collection (Marian Wenzel, Ornament and Amulet, London, 1993, cat.454, p.140-1, p.263).
