Comprising a helmet, a large shield and an arm guard (bazuband), the helmet cast as a monster's face with two applied horns and sliding nose guard, the shield with four applied bosses, the finely carved decoration with battle scenes and calligraphic medallions overall, the shield with name of Shah Sulayman in the centre

Lot Essay

Prince Dondukov-Korsakov (1820-1893) had a prominent role as a Russian officer during the Crimean War (1853-56) and the Russo-Turkish War (1877-78). He was Governor of Caucasus between 1882 and 1890.
