This watch was presented by H.R.H. The Princess of Wales to the charity organisation Help the Aged's 'Gold and Diamond Appeal' auction conducted by Christie's, on Wednesday 21 October 1987. The Princess was a patron of Help the Aged and was present during the auction. The watch was subsequently purchased by the News of the World and offered as a prize in a competition in the same year.
