Lot Essay

With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with silvered dial, raised hour markers in gold and tachometer scale in 1943 and its subsequent sale on 7 June 1945.

The reference 533 offered here for sale stands out by its very appealing overall condition, its sophisticated look and freshness to the market. The crisp case proportions and sharp hallmarks are emphasized by the extremely attractive two-tone dial, harmoniously displaying a shade of champagne surrounded by the polished silver ring, highlighted by the raised hard enamel signature and scales. Fresh to the market it is furthermore believed to be the only third example of a reference 533 with two-tone silvered dial to appear in public to date.
Reference 533 was introduced to the market in 1937 and is distinguished by the elegant look of its Calatrava case with the typical flat bezel. The model is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, second edition, p. 264.
