A WHITE JADE ARCHAISTIC VASE AND COVER
18TH/19TH CENTURY
The tapering ovoid body of the vase is carved in relief with a large band of pendant leaves, each enclosing archaistic dragon patterns. There is a band including a monster mask surrounded by leafy scrolls above sinuous kui dragons to the shoulders. Both the neck and cover have a pair of mythical beast head handles with loose rings. One loose ring to the neck links a long interlocking chain to another attached to a handle on the cover. The stone is of an even white tone with slightly opaque areas.
10 in. (25.4 cm.) high
Special notice
VAT rate of 5% is payable on hammer price and at 20% on the buyer's premium.
