A CARVED TORTOISESHELL COCKADE AND BRISÉ FAN
LATE 18TH CENTURY, CIRCA 1790
The fan is carved and pierced all over with three oval vignettes enclosing ladies and scholars, surrounded by a dense ground of figures in various pursuits including rowing, hunting and fighting. The ivory handles are delicately carved with flowers on leafy stems.
