A GILT-BRONZE 'QILIN' CENSER AND COVER
17TH/18TH CENTURY
The beast is cast standing foursquare with its head formed as the hinged cover. It is detailed with its mouth open and teeth bared. The mane and tail are finely delineated and it wears a tasseled collar with a bell around its neck.

There is a gilt-bronze qilin censer of similar form in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in The Complete Treasures of the Palace Museum, Hong Kong, 2004, p.9, no.7.
