AN ARCHAIC BRONZE TRIPOD VESSEL AND COVER, DING
WARRING STATES PERIOD (475-221 BC)
The circular vessel is finely cast around the exterior with two bands of entwined archaistic kui dragons, all separated by a thin 'rope-twist' band. The flat cover is surmounted by a central loop handle and applied with three equidistant, open-work, L-shaped 'dragon' plaques. The sides are adorned with a U-shaped handle on either side and the vessel is supported on three cabriole feet.

The dating of the current lot is consistent with the results of thermoluminesce analysis carried out by The Research Laboratory for Archaeology and the History of Art, Oxford University, no. 666y258.
