Prayers, Arabic manuscript on gold sprinkled paper, 18ff. plus 2 fly-leaves, each with 9ll. of neat black naskh script, headings in white on gold panels or picked out in gold on white panels, opening folio with later gold and polychrome illuminated headpiece, first two folios and colophon with text in clouds on gold ground, colophon signed Ibn Muhammad Zaman 'Abd al-Ghafur, waterstaining throughout mainly confined to the margins, in later marbled card binding

Lot Essay

'Abd al-Ghafur bin Muhammad Zaman could well be the son of the celebrated artist Muhammad Zaman (d. circa 1700 AD). Muhammad Zaman was one of the first Safavid court painters to imitate European painting styles and perspective and he frequently painted for royal Safavid patrons.
