Gouache heightened with gold on paper, the first folio from the frontispiece of the manuscript, depicting men playing games and discoursing on a terrace, a garden in the background, bordered with finely illuminated medallions, each giving the titles of various Persian diwans, the reverse in fact the first folio of text lavishly illuminated, the second miniature depicting a banquet and men entertained by a dancer, women watching from balconies, with illuminated margins, the reverse with 16ll. of black nasta'liq script between illuminated cartouches and colophon signed Hidayat Allah al-Shirazi, each in upright gilt leather frames, some flaking, otherwise good condition, together with two Safavid revival miniatures painted on 15th or 16th century folios

Lot Essay
Hidayat Allah al-Shirazi copied a manuscript of Khaqani's Kulliyat which was sold at Sotheby's, 24 April 1997, lot 82.
