An astronomer named 'Abd al-Latif al-Dimashqi is recorded in Al-a'lam (Khayr al-Din al-Zirikli, op.cit., Beirut, vol.4, p.58). His full name is 'Abd al-Latif bin Ibrahim bin Yahya bin Ahmad bin 'Abdullah al-Umawy al-Shafi'i, known as Ibn al-Kayyal. He died in 1543 AD.
