A LONG-NOSED SCARED-HEAD PLAY-CLUB
ROBERT FORGAN Robert Forgan (1824-1900), of St. Andrews, began his working life as a joiner. He joined his uncle Hugh Philp as an apprentice and continued in the business after the death of his uncle in 1856. Forgan has always been credited as the first to hand hammer guttas to a regular pattern. In 1863 he was appointed club maker to the Prince of Wales and from then on the Prince of Wales' Feathers were impressed on his clubheads below the maker's name.
