The arms are those of Leigh impaling those of Willes, for Chandos Leigh, 1st Baron Leigh (1791-1850) of Stoneleigh, Warwickshire. He married in 1819 Margarette, daughter of the Rev. William Shippen Willes. According to the Complete Peerage, Chandos Leigh was "early distinguished by his elegant scholarship," author of The Island of Love, 1812, Juvenile Poems, 1815, and other small volumes. He was created Baron 11 May 1839.
