Meiji Period (late 19th century)
Decorated in gold hiramaki-e, takamaki-e and inlays of stained ivory, tortoiseshell and mother-of-pearl with a dragonfly over branches of peach, the lid lifting to reveal seven variously sized boxes, the covers of each decorated with insects including spiders, beetles, mantis, ladybirds and fruiting branches
