Lot Essay

The present work is likely to date from Gunn's visit to the south of France in 1926 where he worked at Antibes and Cannes. It is thought that it is the harbour at Cannes depicted here. In the following years exhibitions of his recent work, most of it painted on his travels, were staged at Colnaghi's (1927) and The Fine Art Society (1929).
