Lot Essay

Born in Ireland, Barton accompanied Mildred Anne Butler to London in 1903 to study under Paul Naftel and settled in Knightsbridge. Many of her watercolours were suited for publication and appeared in Familiar London (1904) and The Ramparts of Empire (illustrated with Norman Wilkinson in 1910). Now known as Park Court, Park Place is a narrow alleyway running between buildings from Knightsbridge and providing access to Hyde Park.
