A LARGE PAIR OF FAMILLE ROSE VASES WITH FIGURES

The vases are of fluted, tapering form each with a slightly waisted neck rising to a flaring rim, areas of the neck and shoulders are moulded in relief, the handles are modelled as a confronting Buddhist lion and its young with paws raised on a brocade ball, the main body is decorated with an all over design of scholars at leisure in a fenced garden setting variously engaged in scholarly pursuits amongst pines and blossoming trees, all below a band of rectangular cartouches enclosing river landscapes divided by panels of dragons amongst clouds and waves, the neck is further decorated with scholars in a gardens setting.
