A HEXAGONAL IVORY BRUSHPOT, PLAQUE AND WRIST REST
17TH CENTURY AND LATER
The brushpot is carved in low relief with three vertical panels depicting lotus, prunus blossom and peony by rockwork and alternating with three panels with incised calligraphic inscriptions, the ivory is of a warm, honey tone with darker brown mottled inclusions; the plaque is carved with two butterflies hovering above a group of flowers with leafy stems, the reverse has a carved calligraphic inscription, the ivory is of a pale creamy tone, wooden stand; the wrist rest is of irregular rectangular form carved to the underside with a three-character inscription and edged by key fret bands, the ivory is of a dark caramel tone.
