Lot Essay

Built by John Elder & Co. in Glasgow in 1879 and registered at 5,386 tons gross, the S.S. Orient was operated by the Orient Line on their U.K. to Australia route. Used as a troopship during the Boer War, her last recorded voyage was in 1909.
