Lot Essay

The work is dated AH 1251 according to the Arabic tradition; this is equivalent to AD 1835/36 and therefore accords with the date lower left. Anno Hegirae (AH) is the year-numbering system used in the Islamic calendar and commemorates the emigration of Muhammad and his followers to the city of Medina in 622 CE.
