Lot Essay

While the title, date, subject matter, dimensions and provenance match the description listed in Mikhailov's 1958 monograph on the artist, there is a discrepancy with regards to the medium, which describes the work as being oil on canvas. The figure in the present work clearly relates to Nesterov's Flenushka (1920s, State Tretyakov Gallery).
We are grateful to Pavel Klimov, Senior Curator at the State Russian Museum, St Petersburg, for his assistance in cataloguing this work.
