Lot Essay

The egg is rare for its use of monochrome printing that was introduced to the factory in 1814. There are only four other known examples of this egg. Two are held at the State Hermitage Museum, one is in the Russian Museum, and the fourth is in a private collection.
For further reference and a similar porcelain egg, see T. Kudriavtseva and H. Whitbeck, Russian Imperial Easter Eggs, London, 2001, pp. 96-97, no. 59.
