Circular, the hinged front cover enamelled with Imperial double-headed eagle beneath a blue champlevé enamelled ribbon, the back cover applied with a signature, opening to reveal a white enamel dial with Roman numerals and a subsidiary seconds dial, in a fitted red leather case applied with the Imperial double-headed eagle, apparently unmarked; with Swiss control marks inside cover, on stem and ring

By repute, presented to the Danish harbour master Anton Bonde (1844-1938) by Emperor Alexander III during one of the State visits to Denmark.

Lot Essay

Anton Bonde (1844-1938) was the son of a skipper on Royal Greenland merchant ships. He served as a reserve officer aboard the Frigate Zealand in 1864 and eventually rose to the position of Harbour Master. Throughout his illustrious naval career, Anton Bonde served for several navies and was awarded various orders, including the Danish Order of the Dannebrog and the Russian orders of St Anne and St Stanislaus.
