Finely cast and chased as an armed warrior mounted on a rearing horse, on a naturalistic gilt base formed as a rock, the matrix blank, in the original Nicholls and Plincke velvet and silk-lined leather box, marked on base
4 1/8 in. (10.3 cm.) high
Provenance
James Murphy, a dentist in St Petersburg in the late nineteenth century, who is believed to have attended the Emperor.
Given to his grand-niece, Josephine Murphy, upon her marriage to Sir Somerset French in 1893.
An inherited estate.
