Brass and metal bound, with metal handles to either end and pre-patent lock, the interior lined in red and white cotton ticking, with padded, taped and studded lid, with fittings for removeable trays
22 x 44 x 22 in. (56 x 112 x 56 cm.)
The lock numbered '6687', the interior with label depicting a Louis Vuitton striped trunk and stamped 'LOUIS VUITTON, 289 OXFORD STREET, REGENT CIRCUS, LONDON, RUE SCRIBE, PARIS' and numbered '6687'

Lot Essay

Louis Vuitton replaced the trademark Gris Trianon canvas with a red striped cloth in 1872, subsequently introducing additional colour ways of the Striped canvas, in shades of maroon and beige, in 1876. This canvas was superseded by the Damier canvas in 1888, followed by the Monogram canvas in 1896.
