CIRCA SECOND HALF OF THE 2ND CENTURY A.D.
Sculpted in high relief with a nereid seated on the back of a triton, the sea nymph looking over her right shoulder, supporting herself with her straight right arm, her palm resting on the sea god's body, his tail coiled beneath her and rising up, balancing a vessel on her bent left leg and supporting it with her left hand, her right foot dangling into the turbulent waters, her flowing mantle beneath her falling along her side and draped across her lap, a youthful triton to the right, holding a conch shell in his right hand, an oar in his left resting against his upper arm, with a muscular human chest, wavy unruly locks, and heavy-lidded almond-shaped eyes, the irises articulated
