Lot Essay

The Royal George (built 1907 as the Heliopolis) was one of 2 steam ships purchased from the defunct Egyptian Mail SS Company by Canadian Northern Steamships Ltd. who started up in 1910 and were owned by the Canadian Northern Railway. It was taken over as a troopship in 1914 and in 1916 the company was taken over by the Cunard line.
