拍品專文

"If human life is built from many threads weaving together just like a doll, it must be so hurtful and sad to see the threads gradually slipping off. Parts of it start to fall apart from the main structure. The moment must be so hard especially if it happens to our life, a life that falls apart and becomes something meaningless. At that very moment, the feeling of existence might be so worthless and empty."
- Uttaporn Nimmalaikaew

Winner of the prestigious Sovereign Asian Art Prize in 2006, Thai artist Uttaporn Nimmalaikaew developed a unique mixed media method to create haunting images of ethereal figures. Printed on multiple layers of screen with threads interwoven and suspended throughout these layers, Mother and Daughter (Lot 2554)simultaneously suggest the deep, emotional familial ties, and the frailty and temporality of the connection between the two figures. Nimmalaikaew's work begins with the canvas backdrop that is set inside a deep casement, which is then lightly veiled by layers of thread and netting. In order to create shimmering scenes, he paints on the canvas as well as the thread and netting. Nimmalaikaew's genius lies in the way he creates with astonishing flair and technique, going beyond three-dimensionality to capture time, space and spirit within the casement, halting a moment and retaining its essence.
