Paired with La Batteuse de Beurre, the present figure was first modeled by Suzanne, after François Boucher, in 1755.

For other examples, see E. Bourgeois, Le Biscuit de Sèvres, 1909, fig. 102; S. Eriksen, French Porcelain, Copenhagen, 1980, no. 65; R. Berges, Collectors Choice, New York, 1967, pl. 247; also the example from the Sainsbury Collection, sold Sotheby's, London, 5 May 1970, lot 43 and that from the Elizabeth Parke Firestone Collection, sold Christie's, New York, 21 March 1991, lot 114. See also Christie's, New York, 17/18 May 2005, lot 82 and London, 14 July 2006, lot 70 for examples more recently on the market.

The sculptor Etienne-Maurice Falconet, director of the sculpture workshop at Sèvres 1757-1766, initialed the present example, authorizing its entry into the salesroom.
