In the neoclassic style, modeled with figures of Cronus and of a lamenting woman flanking a faux-marble and lapis clock case supported on the backs of two recumbent lions and surmounted by a military trophy inscribed DIS MANIBUS MAUSOLI below, the whole mounted on an ebonized wood oval base raised on four bronze paw feet, the rim with a raised gallery to receive a glass dome

Lot Essay

Angela Caròla-Perrotti, Le Porcellane dei Borbone di Napoli - Capodimonte e Real Frabbrica Ferdinandea 1743-1806, Naples, 1986, TAv. XCVII for a porcelain clock, also emblematic of Time and similar in spirit to the conception of the present example. The modeling and coloration of the figures is also similar to what was produced in porcelain.
