Lot Essay

The form of the present examples is based on an Asian ritual form made of jade during the Neolithic period in China. The continuity of this form is strongly evident in the celadon stoneware tradition of both the Ming and Song dynasties. The merging of the Art Pottery tradition and this ancient form mark a turning point at Mintons and pre-cursor for the Secessionist period to follow.
