Each of the circular gilt-metal discs, of gradated size, is cast with a circular aperture. The narrow side is embellished with cloisonne enamel florets on a turquoise enamel ground.

Lot Essay

Similar cloisonne enamel rings but with a wider aperture are in the Palace Museum Collection, illustrated in Zhongguo Wenfang Sibao, Beijing chubanshe, 2008, p. 190, no. 242, where they are catalogued as weights for holding flat tracing paper when practising calligraphy.
