The watch with shield-shaped cylinder movement, white enamel dial with Breguet numerals, blue enamel surround with light blue circle at the bottom with index regulator, with larger adjoining shield-shaped compartment for snuff, the hinged covers with finely painted polychrome enamel scenes of children playing "thread the needle" and a boy and his dog watching the others at play, after the "Playing at Thread the Needle" engraving by Francesco Bartolozzi from a painting by William Hamilton, to the light blue and black champlevé enamel geometric surround, the case decorated with translucent blue enamel over engine-turned ground, with light blue and black florets within white champlevé enamel borders, the base similarly decorated, movement signed

The enamel miniatures can be attributed to the workshop of the celebrated Jean-Louis Richter, made after English genre works painted by artists specialising in romantic English rural life, such as William Hamilton, Francis Wheatley and William Redmore Bigg. These paintings enjoyed enormous popularity at the time and were often used by Genevan enamellers to embellish their masterpieces.
