HD3 was the brainchild of Jorg Hysek Sr. who founded the brand in 2002 and was later joined by Valerie Ursenbacher and Fabrice Gonet. Their vision is to combine their artistic talents and creativity as equals and to produce futuristic timepieces which reflect the technology and aesthetics of the 21st century. In 2010 after the departure of Valerie Ursenbacher, Jorg Hysek and Fabrice Gonet were joined by Jorg Hysek Jr.
Jorg Hysek Sr. began his design career in the Rolex Design department in the 1970s. After ten years, he opened his own design company and worked with many well-known watchmakers such as Ebel, Cartier, Tiffany & Co., Breguet and Vacheron Constantin. In the 1990s, Hysek decided to launch his own brand, first, Hysek and then HD3 Complication in 2002. Fabrice Gonet was only 17 years old when he joined Hysek's design company. His wild imagination and fascination for science fiction is one of the motors behind the futuristic designs of the HD3 timepieces. Jorg Hysek Jr. brings his business acumen to the partnership and is responsible for the company's commercial development and strategy.
HD3 is a new-wave brand which has and will continue to change one's perception of time. Jorg Hysek and Fabrice Gonet's understanding of the watch culture and their openness to new possibilities and new mechanics are the backbone of their philosophy.
The HD3 Vulcania Bi-Axial model was inspired by the fantasy world of Jules Verne and is the second timepiece created by Fabrice Gonet for HD3.
The main feature of the present lot embodies a tourbillon rotating on two axes. Furthermore, the various design details were inspired by old seafaring vessels and early submarines such as the display of the minutes on a disc recalling a ship's chadburn telegraph. Over 2'000 hours of work were necessary to achieve the technical and aesthetic conception of this futuristic watch.
The present example is numbered 11 and is part of a limited edition of 11 pieces in titanium only.
