2 volumes, 2° (341 x 230mm). Half-titles, titles printed in red and black with printer's device, 495 engraved plates, woodcut illustrations throughout. EXTRA ILLUSTRATED with 11 engraved plates and 3 leaves with 24 figures depicted in contemporary costumes. (Vol. I: small unobtrusive hole to most margins, occasional light soiling, small neat repair to one plate. Vol. II: 2M4 with small marginal repair to corner, Y2 with engraved plate of Milan pasted on original illustration and 2S2 verso with small typed text correction applied to text.) Later vellum with lettering-pieces, marbled edges (recased with new endpapers, some worming of spines, joints of vol. I slightly split).
FIRST EDITION, RARE AND RICHLY ILLUSTRATED, of Lasor a Varea's geographical lexicon. The present historical dictionary includes a large number of maps and views taken from old plates dating from a century or more earlier. The plates are taken from Valeggio (Raccolta, 1595), Porcacchi (Le Isole più famose del mondo, 1572), Rosaccio-Franco (Viaggi a Costantinopoli, 1598) and Magini (Geografia, 1596). COMPLETE with all plates called for by Shirley and VERY RARE. ABPC on-line only records the sale of one copy.
